GDPR is an EU regulation concerning the protection of personal data and applies in circumstances defined by the regulation. ISO/IEC 27701:2025 adds privacy information management capabilities to an information security management framework and can support privacy governance and GDPR compliance efforts. GDPR compliance itself is a legal obligation, not an ISO certification.
